Members of East London Rugby Club’s Titans juniors squad travelled to Twickenham last month for their first experience of big-time international rugby.
The youngsters were guests of Allianz UK at the home of England Rugby for the recent Autumn International match between England and Japan. Allianz is the insurance partner of the England Rugby Football Union and Twickenham is now known as Allianz Stadium.
The Titans also collected a cheque for £1,000 from the Allianz Future Fund, which is part of the company’s commitment to support grassroots rugby clubs at all levels. The cheque was presented by Allianz Insurance director Mike Thomas.
Titans head coach Graham Jones said: “It was a fantastic day and the boys really enjoyed themselves. This was their first experience of live international rugby on a big stage. It was a great trip and we are grateful to the club and Allianz for all their support.”
East London RFC Co-Chair Kat Salthouse said: “The Titans have brought a lot of fun and energy to the club in this their first season. We thank the Allianz Future Fund for helping to make rugby accessible to as many people as possible and for helping to set today’s young players on the path to becoming potential stars of tomorrow.”
The Titans juniors train on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Memorial Park in West Ham from 6pm to 7pm. Sessions are suitable for boys and girls aged from six to 11. Parents are also invited.
