Members of East London RFC are supporting a sponsored cycle ride on 22 August in aid of projects supported by the Atlas Foundation, the charity that offers deprived children a better future through rugby communities and initiatives.
Club President Nick Bracken, player Andy Davenport, and shirt sponsors and former players George Collins and Tom Flynn, are taking part in the ride from London to Norfolk across the counties of Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Other club members, including chairman Simon Crick, are part of the support crew on the day.
The group are raising funds for the Silver Hippo Atlas Foundation Fund, which pays for feeding and social inclusion projects in the townships of South Africa. Members of East London RFC, who are part of the Silver Hippos RFC tour group, met children from the supported projects in 2018 in Cape Town (pictured above) with the England team.
The Atlas Foundation provides safety, education, food, sport, guidance and community, to thousands of children across five continents. It is founded and led by England rugby legend Jason Leonard OBE. More than £1 million has been raised and more than 50,000 children have been supported.
Club chairman Simon Crick said: "East London RFC are proud to support Silver Hippos RFC and the Atlas Foundation who do great work. In these challenging times, as we recover from the worst effects of Covid-19 around the world, whatever people can afford to donate will be thoroughly appreciated. Good luck to Nick, Andy, George and Tom."
