Photographs documenting the life of East London Rugby Football Club during the 2021/2022 season are to go on display at Twickenham Stadium, the home of English Rugby, from Thursday (26 May).
The images were shot by award-winning sport, fitness and lifestyle photographer Karen Yeomans and were shortlisted in the portfolio section of the 2022 Rugby Photographer of the Year Awards, run by Rugby Journal magazine and sponsored by Keith Prowse, official hospitality provider at Twickenham.
There were six competition categories with images from Uganda, Australia, America, Spain and the United Kingdom among the winners. More than 600 entries were whittled down to 60, including Karen’s East London portfolio. All the shortlisted entries will appear at Twickenham’s World Rugby Museum and in the next edition of Rugby Journal.
Photographer Karen, whose clients include Red Bull and Reebok, followed East London’s men’s teams and Vixens’ ladies, focusing on the spirit of the club on and off the pitch.
Karen said: “I was chuffed that the East London project got shortlisted. I really wanted to get under the skin of the game we love and show the power, pleasure and pain behind the sport and share what being part of a rugby club means.”
East London Rugby Club Chair Simon Crick said: “Karen’s pictures are grassroots rugby at its finest. She has captured the spirit of family, community, and passion for the sport that exists at East London and at all rugby clubs. We hope many people get to see her fantastic work when the images go on display at Twickenham from 26 May.”
