Nick honoured to be ambassador for Essex

"I am honoured that the Essex clubs have put their faith in me to be their voice on the RFU Council.”
- Nick Bracken OBE

East London Rugby Football Club President Nick Bracken OBE has been confirmed as the new Rugby Football Union Council Member representing the county of Essex until 2026.

Nick replaces Simon Wakefield, the former RFU Council representative for Essex who stepped down in March. Clubs across the county were invited to submit nominations for the vacant role, which is for a term of three years.

Mr Bracken, who is the current President of Essex County RFU, said: “I thank Simon for representing the county so well in recent years and I am honoured that the Essex clubs have put their faith in me to be their voice on the RFU Council.”

The Council has 62 members who channel feedback and information between their clubs and organisations and the RFU. They also make some decisions on behalf of the RFU, putting in place regulations and policies relating to the playing of the sport. They also provide monitoring and oversight of the RFU Board on behalf of the game as a whole.

Mr Bracken added: “I am looking forward to being an ambassador on the RFU Council for players, volunteers and supporters of all Essex clubs, speaking up for community grassroots men’s, women’s and youth rugby while continuing to support the elite game at the very top level, particularly ahead of Rugby World Cup 2023.”
